Valentine’s Day is secretly one of my favorite holidays. There’s no pressure around presents or a perfect meal; it’s just a happy day to celebrate those you love. I wanted this year’s table to be bright and joyful, so we leaned into a classic red and pink palette but added lots of modern touches to keep it fresh. Read on for all the details!
I’m teaming up with tabletop brand VIETRI(paid partnership) for a few shoots this year and was thrilled to pull these plates, glasses, and flatware from their fabulous inventory (shop it all here). Recently-engaged gals: VIETRI is a fantastic brand for your registry. I included them on my tabletop registry guide and they have an enormous selection of chic basics and beautiful add-ons. For example, how great is the cutlery we selected for this table? It comes in a million colors, but I really love the clear, Lucite look. If you can, it’s great to have a second set of “fun” flatware to jazz up your tables, and something like this is perfect because it can be dressed up or down and paired with both traditional and modern place settings.
A big trend for this year is color, especially colored glassware. You see me use bold goblets and stemware a lot – it really helps make a table pop. I don’t have red décor in my home, but it’s a color I like for tabletop pieces because I can use them all holiday season, then again for Valentine’s, and again for July 4th (you know I like things that pull double [or triple] duty). The red and white plates are from VIETRI's Chroma line, which I love for its clean, modern look (calling all brides again: these are fantastic everyday dishes). The best part is that all of these pieces (glassware included) are dishwasher safe. Sophisticated and low-maintenance? Yes, please!
Courtney Whitmore of Pizzazzerie created these amazing heart-shaped “cakelets” for our shoot. She is another Southern hostess-with-the-mostess, and the author of 6 (yes, SIX) fabulous cookbooks. She’s a terrific Instagram follow and has kindly shared the recipe for these precious little cakes. I’m no baker but I think this would be a really fun Valentine’s activity with your kids, and you can easily use a cake mix to cut some corners. I love that she used fresh flowers to embellish these, and did you notice that she found marbled spray roses to match the linens?!
Speaking of, a huge thank you to Kim of No One Alike for loaning us this fabulous tablecloth. She specializes in marbled table linens and accessories and her color combinations are endless. The taper candles are one of my favorite hostess gifts because they’re just so unique. As you can see here and here, I use them a lot myself and love the touch of whimsy they bring to my tables.
One quick note on florals – this ombre look couldn’t be easier. We did it ourselves with spray roses but you could easily replicate this with carnations which look great en masse. I like long, low vases (we pushed two together) so you can easily see over the arrangement. Just shove the flowers in light to dark for a really cool look.
Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all! And if you can’t resist a Heart Day present, be sure to check out our Valentine’s gift guide. XOXO
