Cinco de Mayo Tablescape 2018
This year we’re attending a friend’s Cinco Di Mayo celebration that includes kids, so I imagine it will be a somewhat tame day of celebration for us. However, I’m going to give you a little run-down of the tequila-tasting birthday party I threw for my husband last year to show you a few last-minute ideas for the festive weekend ahead. Almost every piece of décor on the table is paper or plastic so it’s ALL disposable- easy clean-up and affordable. There are a few online shops I frequent for pretty paper goods, and you can find the plates and napkins shown here at Caspari. The glasses are from Targetand Party City, and the table runner is from Hester & Cook. The star of each place setting is by far these hand-painted place cards created by Grace and Paper Designs. She coordinated them with signage she also made for the tequila-tasting at the bar. The place cards were such a hit with guests that most people took them home with them. This is an area to “splurge” as it’s such a custom piece that shows you really gave some thought to the event, even though everything else was SUPER easy to pull together.
The tables, chairs, bar and back-bar shelves are all rented from Please Be Seated, so they were dropped off and picked up. I didn’t even have to lug anything into the yard- brilliant. All of the mini cactuses used on the table and the larger cactuses on the bar are from FLWR Shop, but if you don’t want to order anything, you can always buy them yourself at Home Depot for a fraction of the cost of real flowers. I love unique florists like FLWR Shop who carry items like cactuses, as sometimes it’s nice to get creative and spice things up a bit from the typical floral arrangement.
Though I do love a beautiful cake for dessert, at the time of this event, I had recently discovered a Nashville-based Vegan baker who creates the most incredible desserts. Now, I’m not Vegan, nor had I ever tasted anything Vegan prior to this event. But her creations were too interesting to pass up, and so I took a chance, and it totally paid off. These mini cactuses and succulents were delicious, and the perfect addition to our table décor. As for dinner, I ordered Tex-Mex to- go (from San Antonio Taco if you’re a Nashville local), and set-up a self-service taco bar. Everything for the tacos was included, so I literally didn’t do one thing as far as cooking was concerned, and overall, it was one of the most affordable meals I’ve ever provided for a group of 12 adults. Gotta love tacos y’all!Last, but not least- the bar. We kept things simple by offering beer and tequila only (it became quite the wild night as you can imagine), and we provided mini-plastic shot glasses for guests to try out the different types of tequila. Don’t worry- we had a margarita mix available at the bar so that if anyone wanted a full-on margarita, it was also an option. I mean, it is Cinco Di Mayo after all!!!
