Easy Entertaining- Southern Baked Ham & Swiss Sliders

As previously mentioned in my other recipe posts, please don't get used to me posting recipes. It really goes against everything I "stand for" on here (ha)- aka, delegating just about everything possible when entertaining. However, these "Ham and Swiss Sliders" are just as easy to make as my other recipes, so I'll let them "slide" by... They are also beyond delicious and filling, so they make for the perfect food to serve at cocktail parties anytime of the year. I actually lost this particular recipe (from my mother of course) for a while, and so I tried out a few others that I found online, but none even compared to this one. Thankfully, when we moved, I found the recipe, and all was right again in the world. In fact, these are so delicious that when I make them, it's almost impossible to keep my husband from eating half of them before I can offer them to others! I also feel like this is a southern stable for every hostess- even those like me, who don't like to cook! Enjoy y'all!Ingredients (Makes 36 rolls, so feel free to double when serving a crowd)

  • 3- 12-Packs of King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (36 rolls total)

  • 2 lbs of Sliced Deli Ham (I ask for Boar's Head Honey Ham)

  • 1 lb. of Sliced Swiss Cheese (I prefer sliced deli cheese over pre-packaged for this)

  •  3 Sticks of Butter (softened overnight or heated until soft in microwave- but do not melt)

  • 1.5 TEAspoons of Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1.5 Tablesoons of Poppy Seeds

  • 1 Tablespoon of Minced Onions

  • 3 Tablespoons of Dijon Mustard

Directions

  1. Mix the softened butter, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, minced onions and dijon mustard in a bowl until combined and smooth (use a spoon or spatula not a mixer)

  2. I like to assemble my rolls in "sheets" of rolls and then cut them up into individual rolls once assembled and before baking them. This is a MUCH faster way to put them together than separating them all first, though you can put them together that way as well. I like to take one package of 12 rolls and slice all the way down the center of the rolls (horizontally) as if you were opening just one roll to add butter. Take the top "sheet" of rolls off and set it aside.

  3. Using your sauce mixture, "ice" the bottom half of the rolls with a thick coating.

  4. Add a layer of Swiss cheese on top of the sauce so that it covers all the rolls.

  5. Fold over pieces of ham and layer them on top of the cheese. You don't want the ham too thick or thin so I layer my folded pieces so that each roll gets about 3 layers total of sliced ham.

  6. Put the top sheet of rolls back on and press slightly so that your sandwiches stick together and do not fall about at the next step.

  7. Cut out all the individual rolls and move them to an aluminum lined backing sheet. You want the individual rolls close to each other but not touching.

  8. Bake the rolls in your oven at 350 degrees for approximately 12-20 minutes. This time will depend on your oven, so BE SURE to monitor the rolls starting at around 10 minutes. They are ready to remove when the tops of the rolls are golden brown and slightly crisped and you can see that the cheese has totally melted. These sliders are best served warm.

Note: You can prepare these the day before without baking them and chill them in your refrigerator until you're ready to bake them before serving the next day.
